16th Rapid Chess Festival 2023

ORGANIZERS: Keravnos Oreokastrou Chess Club with the Chess Clubs Union of Thessaloniki-Halkidiki and the Greek Chess Federation.

 ΤOURNAMENT VENUE: Thessaloniki – “Hotel Philippion”.

 GROUP A: Open to all chess players. Group A will be valid for FIDE Rapid rating.

GROUP B: Open to all chess players under 10 years old (born in 2013 and beyond) without FIDE rating (they are still allowed to play in Group A instead if they choose so). Group B will not be FIDE rated and they will play a total of 7 rounds on Saturday.

MODE:10-round Swiss-system FIDE rapid rated event.

CLOSING CEREMONY: Sunday 29/10/2023at 14:30.

ENTRY FEE: 20€. No entry fee for GMs, IMs, WGMs, WIMs. No entry fee for those with Fide Rapid rating over 2300.

Siblings will have discount of 5€ (total 35€). Players who will participate in both rapid and blitz will pay 25€. Two (2) members from the same family who will participate in both tournaments (Blitz and Rapid) will pay 50 euros. Three (3) members from the same family will pay 60 euros for both tournaments (Blitz and Rapid).

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS:Thursday 26/10/2023 at 22:00. Pairings for the 1^st round on Friday 27/10/2023 at 23:00.

TIME CONTROL:15minutes for each player plus 3 seconds increment per move from the first move.

TIEBREAKS: 1) Buchholz cut-1, 2) Sonneborn-Berger, 3) Sum Buchholz tie-breaks variable, 4) Direct encounter (the result of players in the same point group), 5) Greater number of victories (variable).

 ANTI CHEATING: The anti-cheating regulations will be implemented according to the Anti-Cheating Committee directives of F.I.D.E..

 Group A:

Prizes are not shared. No player may win more than 1 prize.

Medals will be given to the first three (3) and to the first (1^st) girl in the categories U08, U10, U12, and U14.

Cups will be given to the first three (3) in the final ranking and to the first (1^st) woman.

Chess players over 55 years old are considered veterans.

Group B:

Cups will be given to the first three (3) in the final ranking and to the first (1st) women.

Medals will be given to the first three (3) and first (1^st) girl in the category U08.

All the Preschoolers will be rewarded.

ACCOMMODATION: Accommodation and board are offered in the 4-stars hotel “Philippion”

PRICES PER PERSON PER NIGHT WITH F/B: Double room: 44 euros. Triple room: 41 euros, Single: 64 euros. Children up to 12 years old who stay in their parents' room pay 24 euros. Accommodation tax of 3 euros per night is not included in the above prices.

Accommodation at the hotel is not mandatory.

TRANSFER TO HOTEL “PHILLIPION”: The hotel’s bus will start from the Archaeological Museum, downtown at 15:00. Departure from hotel to the city center at 21:30.

EXCEPTIONS: Up to two (2) exceptions are allowed for each player.

Group A: 1^st 1200 Euros + Cup, 2^nd 700 Euros + Cup, 3^rd 400 Euros + Cup, 4^th 100 Euros + Medal, 5^th 100 Euros + Medal, 1^st Woman 200 Euros + Cup

Group B: 1^st 400 Euros + Cup, 2^nd 250 Euros + Cup, 3^rd 150 Euros + Cup, 1^st Woman 100 Euros + Cup.

Special categories (Group B): 1^st U16, 1^st U14, 1^st U12 of each category: Cup + Chessboard + Chess Timer. 1^st Girl U16. U14, U12: Cup + Chess Book. 2nd-3rd U16, U14, U12: Medal + Chess book.  

(only if there are at least 6 players in the special category).

At Group A+B, the prizes will be shared by the Hort system (up to 6th final ranking). If a player qualifies for two or more prizes he/she is awarded the higher one. By no appearance in the Closing Ceremony the right for prizes is forfeited.

Group C: 1^st Cup + Chess Timer + Chessboard, 2^nd and 3^rd Medals + Chess Book, 1^st Woman Cup + Chess Timer or Chessboard.

Special categories (Group C): 1^st U08, 1^st U10, 1^st U12, 1^st U14 of each category: Cup + Chessboard or Chess Book. 1^st Girl U08, U10, U12, U14: Medal + Chess Book or Chessboard. 2nd-3rd U08, U10, U12, U14: Medal + Chess Book or Chessboard.  

(only if there are at least 6 players in every special category).

* Prizes and awards may be increased according to the participants and will be announced in a supplementary schedule.

 

Objections –Appeals committee: Objections are made no later than thirty (30) minutes after the end of the last game of the round. The Appeals Committee, will be nominated from the competition before the beginning of the tournament where 3 full members and 2 alternate members shall be selected before the beginning of the tournament. From the Appeals Committee excludes all its members related to the athletes involved in the objection and is replaced by the alternates. The fee for the objection is set at 60€ and must be deposited to the Director of the competition. In case the objection is upheld, the fee is returned.

Group A:

1.      Title holders with FIDE rating >=2500 [Women >=2400] - No entry fee

2.      Title holders with FIDE rating >=2400 [Women ≥ 2300]  - No entry fee

3.      Players with FIDE rating 2300-2399 [Women 2200-2299] - 20 Euros

4.      Players with FIDE rating 2200-2299 [Women 2100-2199] - 25 Euros

5.      Players with FIDE rating 2100-2199 [Women 2000-2099] - 30 Euros

6.      Players with FIDE rating 2000-2099 [Women 1900-1999] - 40 Euros

7.      Players with FIDE rating 1900-1999 [Women 1800-1899] - 50 Euros

 

Participants with FIDE rating 1700-1899 who wish to play at Group A, may participate by paying 80 Euros Entry Fee.

The Organization Committee offers 10 places to chess players with Fide Rating under 1700 to play in Group A by paying an entry fee of 120 euros.

Group B: 35 Euros (Elo 1200 - 1899)

There is a discount of 5€ for families with two members and discount of 10 € with three members. 

Group C: General entry fee 25 Euros. For those who wish to participate in Group B but belong to Group C, the entry fee is 55 euros.

Group A, B and C:

For the second member of the same family discount 5 euros at the entry fee

For the third and above member of the same family no entry fee

Disabled persons 50% discount at the entry fee

2. Title holders with FIDE rating >= 2400 [Women ≥ 2300] à Free accommodation and breakfast at the Porto Palace Hotel in a three bed room (plus no entry fee).
